Sophia (Bajdas) Kubasik, 97, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at her home at St. Columban’s on the Lake on March 11, 2022.
Sophia was born in Detroit, Mich., on April 15, 1924, the daughter of Thomas and Anastasia (Malkowiak) Bajdas.
She was employed by Van Ralte and retired from Kraft Foods after 30 years.
She was a member of the Blessed Mary Angela Parish at St. Hedwig’s Church.
Her memberships included St. Hedwig’s Rosary Society, Kosciusko Polish Home and the Dunkirk Senior Center.
Survivors include daughter, Diana (Dennis) Vanderlee; grandchildren: Denise (Kyle) Savoir, Danielle (Leonard) Phillips III, Douglas (Beth) Vanderlee. Nine great-grandchildren, Keegan, Connor, Brooke Savoir, Leonard IV, Cody, Riley, Autumn Phil-lips, Luke and Evelyn Vanderlee; two brothers: Edward Bajdas and Joseph Bajdas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Leo Kubasik who died Aug. 5, 1993; a daughter, Linda who died July 4, 1997; three brother: Henry Bajdas, Norbert Bajdas and Arthur (Archie) Bajdas.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Mon-day, from 3-6 p.m., at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc, 56 E Doughty St.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, at 10 a.m. in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery
