Rose M. Vacanti, 90, of Dunkirk, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, January 5, 2016, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born November 1, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late Costantino and Anna (Sanzone) Simonetti. Rose married her husband Joseph in Birmingham, and moved to Dunkirk, where they started their family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She had a generous heart and loved to cook and travel to various places to visit her daughter Rosalind and her family. Rose enjoyed watching movies and gardening. She will be sadly missed. Her memberships included St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, Life member of East Dunkirk Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Lucy Society. Surviving are her daughters Annette and JoAnn Vacanti of Dunkirk, Rosalind (Bernard) Barris of Texas, 3 grandchildren, Brian (Margaret) Barris, Kathleen (Patrick) Dideum, Karen (Kris) Ostrowski, 7 great-grandchildren, Rose, Irene, and Grace Barris, Charlie, Andrew and James Dideum, and Jason Ostrowski, along with several nieces and nephews also surviving in Birmingham, Alabama. Preceded in death in addition to her parents is her husband Joseph James Vacanti, whom she married October 24, 1945 and died March 21, 1971, siblings Frank, Joe, and Frances. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery
