Richard Paul “Peanuts” Jakubczyk
, 76, of Dunkirk, died Friday evening March 4, 2022 surrounded by loved ones at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1945, in Dunkirk, son of the late Joseph and Shirley (Lemiszko) Jakubczyk.
He was a graduate of Dunkirk Industrial High School.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-68. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.
A retired employee of the city of Dunkirk, and at one time an employee at the former Plymouth Tube.

Memberships include the former St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church and now Blessed Mary Angela Parish. He was a long-time member and president of the World War II Veterans Club, over a 50 year membership at Murray Hose Company 4. Other memberships included, at one time, Moniuszko Club, Exempt Fireman’s Association, Kosciuszko Polish Home, First Ward Falcon Club and Fourth Ward Falcon Club.
Richard loved sports, and was an avid New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and Michigan State Spartan fan. He was well known for his pitching abilities and was inducted into the WNY Softball Hall of Fame in 2016.
Surviving are a sister, Barbara (Tom) Zielinski of Glenville, N.Y.; a niece, Kristen (Brian) Watson and great niece, Margo Watson of Scotia, N.Y., Kristine George; great-nephew, Jared George; life partner, Betty Anson, of Dunkirk; honorary children including Christopher, Erika and Kelly Anson, all of Dunkirk; along with many cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Jankowski) Jakubczyk, brother John "Jasiu" Jakubczyk.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call on THURSDAY 3-6 p.m.,at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc, 56 E, Doughty St., in Dunkirk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated FRIDAY morning at 10 a.m., in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig.
Interment will be in St Hedwig’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., in Dunkirk or St. Hedwig’s Cemetery Fund, c/o BMA R.C. Parish, 296 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
