Richard J. Eckstrom

Richard John Eckstrom, 60, of Dunkirk died with his family at his side on Friday, October 27th, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital following a brief illness. Richard,  son of Rita (Kauphusman) Eckstrom and the late Howard Eckstrom was born in Dunkirk on December 9th, 1962.

He will be remembered for the love and devotion that he shared as the primary caregiver of his mother. Richard always found time to share a smile or offer a hand to those in need. His strong faith provided the gift that allowed him to touch more lives than most.

Richard, a graduate of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School and a student at Cardinal Mindzenty High School until its closing, continued his education at Dunkirk Senior High School. 

He is survived by his six brothers, Edward (Ruth), Ron (Chris), Bob (Becky), Eric, Andy, and John, and seven sisters,  Jean (Skip) Cole, Barb (Steve) Skelton, Mary (Art) Smith, Peggy (Scott) Freeman, Amy (Tim) Clarke, Julie (Greg) Rouse, and Carrie (Joe) Keane. Richard was loved by 40 nieces and nephews as well as 40 great-nieces and great-nephews who remember him as Uncle Dicky DOG - "Do Only Good". He was predeceased by his father, a niece Nicole Eckstrom,  and sister-in-law Barb Eckstrom. 

A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at 10AM.
