Phyllis A. Zielinski, 81, of Dunkirk, NY died Thursday evening November 7, 2019 at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 26, 1938 in Dunkirk, NY the daughter of Raymond and Loretta (Wojcinski) Zielinski. Phyllis received an Associate in Applied Science, with honors, from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia.Phyllis’ varied career included a year as a teacher at St. Mary’s R. C. School in Dunkirk, thirteen years as a cloistered sister (O.P.) in the Dominican Monastery of the Perpetual Rosary in Syracuse, NY and was most recently employed as a re-weaver at M. Wile and Co. in Dunkirk and Buffalo.She was an accomplished artist in a variety of mediums, including fabric and fiber, ceramics, jewelry design and graphics.Phyllis is survived by her brother Edmund (Kathie) Zielinski of Liverpool, NY, sister, Mary Lou Hay of Brandon, FL, and her brother Peter (Kimberly) Zielinski of Arkwright, NY. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive.Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Sheridan, NY and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
