Penny J. Skelly

The world lost a beloved mother, Penny Skelly, on Nov. 12, 2021.

Penny battled with many medical issues for years. She is the strongest person we know. Penny passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Chautauqua County Nursing Home.

Penny was born on Aug. 20, 1957.Penny worked at Dunkirk Ice Cream for many years until her health problems arose. Everyone who has had the privilege of knowing Penny has shared many laughs with her. Her passion was Christmas. The songs, decorating and baking are a few things that are a permanent memory for her children. Christmas was always magical with Mom.

Penny is survived by her best friend and husband, Pete Skelly of 32 years. Her children: Stacy (Rob) Blakemore, Heather (AJ) Burlett, Tammy (Jeff) Rush and Peter (Amanda Sobczyk) Skelly. Grandchildren: Chris, Cjay, Bobby and Conner Blakemore, Zoey and Elle Burlett, Emily, Evelyn and Frankie Skelly. Sisters: Robin (Willie) Martinez, Rosie (Tim Lester) Davis, Peggy (Jim) Reading and Bobby Davis; and many nieces and nephews. Penny was preceded in death by her son, William; her parents, Ruth and Henry Davis; her sister, Mary Jo (John) Pleszewski; and brother Hank Davis.

On June 22,2020 Penny posted this poem:Don’t cry for meDon’t cry for me. I will be okay. Heaven is my home now and this is where I will stay.Don’t cry for me. I’m where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong. Don’t cry for me. It was just my time, but I will see you someday or the other side. Don’t cry for me. I am not alone. The angels are with me to welcome me home. Don’t cry for me, for I have no fear. All my pain is gone, Jesus took my tears. Don’t cry for me. This is not the end. I’ll be waiting here for you when we meet again. Penny will be missed by many. We love you Mom.
