Norman S. “Ninny” Krzyzanowicz, 88, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2018, following a brief illness at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center.
He was born in Dunkirk, August 21, 1929, son of Joseph and Anna (Sikora) Krzyzanowicz.A retired employee of the Ford Stamping Plant in Woodlawn, Norman was well know for his racing pigeons and was a member and past president of the Dunkirk Racing Pigeons Club. He was also infamous for releasing his White Pigeons at family and friends’ weddings.“Ninny” enjoyed going to his favorite spot, Jenna’s, for meals with his grandchildren.
His memberships include Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig, The Dunkirk Racing Pigeon Club, Kosciuszko Club, and Dunkirk Falcon Club.
Surviving are children, Sue (Tim) Gornikiewicz, Nancy (Sue Connors) Krzyzanowicz, Sharon Kokocinski; daughter-in-law Judy Krzyzanowicz; and brother James Krzyzanowicz, all of Dunkirk. Eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews also survive.Preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife Elizabeth (Stranz) Krzyzanowicz, who died April 11, 2013; son, Robert Krzyzanowicz, who died November 29, 2009; son-in-law Robert Kokocinski Sr., who died March 6, 2016; grandson, Robert “Bobby” Kokocinski Jr., who died April 4, 2018; and his brother Richard Krzyzanowicz, who died May 9, 1993.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 9:30 at Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig.Interment will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.
