Lillian Polasik

Lillian (Lakadia) Polasik, 98, of Dunkirk, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Dunkirk on Nov. 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Stephen (Sczepan) and Antoinette (Antonia Krylowicz) Przytula.

Lillian initially worked for the Van Raalte Co. and subsequently as a cafeteria and housekeeping employee for the Dunkirk Public School System prior to her retirement. During her later employment tenure, she established memorable and lasting friendships with much of the student body to whom she was known as “Aunt Lodzia,” an adopted moniker of endearment by which her close family always referred to her.She was a member of several social and religious organizations and of Blessed Mary Angela Parish (formerly St. Hedwig Parish).

She enjoyed baking, gardening, being outdoors, word puzzles, faithfully cheering on the Buffalo Bills, searching for that winning lottery ticket, an occasional trip to the casino, playing bingo and, foremost, being with cherished family and friends.Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Aloysius (Al) to whom she was married for 67 years. She was also predeceased by her sisters: Julia Gaszynski, Helen Bielecki, Genevieve Siebert and Shirley Tilburg; and by her brothers Peter and Aloysius Przytula.Surviving are a son, David (Cheryl) Polasik of Wheatfield, N.Y.; two granddaughters: Nikki (Dave) and Courtney (Chris); two great-grandsons: Kalib and Evan; a brother, John Przytula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Lillian knew her as a very kind, generous, honest, religious, supportive, forgiving, respectful and trustworthy person. She loved each and every member of her family and she very much appreciated those who were her steadfast friends. She consistently thought of everyone else first and herself last. She would not hesitate to give you anything you needed from “her personal time” to “her last dollar” to the buttons off of her coat. Although she had a limited formal education, she was wise beyond belief. She often reminisced that she had a wonderful life and that she did not regret anything. I, her son, miss her very much. And, those who truly knew her will undoubtedly miss her as well.

Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.
