Leonard R. Pryll

Leonard R. Pryll, 89, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday evening, March 24, 2015, at the Absolut at Dunkirk, his home since 2008. He was born November 4, 1925, in Dunkirk, son of the late Stanley and Eliza-beth (Schutski) Pryll. A veteran of the US Navy during WWII, Leonard served from 1943-45, was awarded the European African Campaign Medal, and was authorized to wear the Amphibious Force Insignia. He was a retired employee of the former Allegheny Ludlum / Al Tech Steel Plant in Dunkirk. A life member of the Dom Polski Club in Dunkirk, Leonard was a past member of the former St. Hyacinth's R.C. Parish. Leonard was an avid horse race follower. He played the harmonica, loved to tell stories and was well known for his wit. Surviving are his children, Richard Pryll of Dunkirk, Marilyn Engwall of Dunkirk, Steve (Pauline) Pryll of Kentucky, Barb (Greg Bundy) Dickerson of Dunkirk, Sally Pryll of Dunkirk; grandchildren Ricky (Holly) Pryll, Stanley (Jennifer) Pryll, John Engwall, Jennifer (Joe) Brooks, Juli Dickerson, Lisa Dickerson, Wendi Dickerson, Daniel Mancuso, 12 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Lus) Pryll, who died February 1984; brothers Edward and Teddy Pryll; sisters Connie Sam, Ade-line Pryll and Rita Pryll. Relatives and friends are welcome to call today from 3-6 p.m., at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk where Christian Burial Services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock.
