John J. "Jasiu" Jakubczyk, 75, of Dunkirk, died Monday evening, June 15, 2015, at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Facility. He was born February 27, 1940, in Dunkirk, son of the late Joseph and Shirley (Lemiszko) Jakubczyk. A retired employee of Cliffstar in Fredonia, and past employee of the former Roblin Steel, Alumax Extrusions and Plymouth Tube in Dunkirk. Memberships include the former St. Hedwig's R. C. Church and now Blessed Mary Angela Parish, Life member of Moniuszko Club, 4th Ward Falcons Club, over 50year member of Murray Hose Company 4. Jasiu loved sports, and was a Cleveland Browns and Indians Fan, he boxed for three years and was a well known softball player and was inducted into the WNY Softball Hall of Fame on October 6, 1995. Surviving are a brother Richard Jakubczyk and sister Barbara (Tom) Zielinski both of Dunkirk, a niece Kristen (Brian) Watson of Scotia, NY, along with many cousins. Preceded in death in addition to his parents was his sister-in-law Carol Jakubczyk. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined and memorials can be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750 or St. Hedwig's Cemetery, c/o BMA R.C. Parish, 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk, NY 14048. Murray Hose Company members are to meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
