Joan T. Bielaszka, 96, of Batavia, formerly of Dunkirk, died, Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the NYS Veterans Home of Batavia.
She was born April 25, 1923, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Theresa (Michaels) Damian.
A Veteran of US Army, Joan served during WWII. A retired employee of FSA at SUNY Fredonia, she worked as a manager.
In her spare time, Joan enjoyed puzzles and reading the local news in Batavia, Buffalo and the OBSERVER.
Memberships include a life membership at the Dom Polski Club that she was very proud of.
Surviving are her sisters; Patricia Kokocinski, Evelyn Whalen both of Dunkirk, a brother; Robert Damian of Alabama, along with many nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death, in addition to her parents, are her husband; Matthew Bielaszka, sisters; Irene Collins and Lorraine Maslach, brothers; Harry, Chester, Leon, Joseph and Gilbert Damian.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, where Christian burial services will be held at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Ray Donohue to officiate.
Private interment will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dunkirk Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
