Janice Motto

Janice E. Motto, 80, of Dunkirk died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at home.

Janice (Jan) was born in Brocton on May 8, 1940, to the late Herbert and Alice (Brown) Keith.

A 1958 graduate of Brocton High School she attended Alfred State College where she completed the Hartford Airline Personnel program in 1959. Jan worked as a bank teller in Brocton, a waitress at the Westfield Diner, and met her future husband, Gerald at A.Sam & Sons Farms. Janice married Gerald D. Motto on Sept. 17, 1960.

A devoted wife and mother of five. She later became a house keeper for the South Shore Motor Lodge until she retired in 2005. She was also a former member of the West Town of Dunkirk Ladies Auxiliary, Fredonia Methodist Church, and the Collins Draft Horse, Ox, and Pony Club.Jan was famous for her baking, winning awards for her pies and dessert creations. She enjoyed gardening on the family’s farm and canning all the fruits and vegetables that were grown from seed.

Survivors include a brother, Robert “Butch” Keith of Fredonia, children Janine Motto (Andrew Foremiak) of Weatfield; Christopher (Sherry) Motto of Nobelsville, Ind.; Glenn (Samantha) Motto of Altamont, N.Y.; and Sharon (Brian) Ardillo of Dunkirk; son in law Tony Faso of Fredonia, and her 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Jan was predeceased in death by her husband of sixty years Gerald, a daughter, Laurie Faso of Fredonia, and a grandson, Justin Moore of Angola, NY.

Following the guidlines and protocals administered by the governor of New York, relatives and friends may call on Today from 6-8 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty Street, Dunkirk, where funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m.Interment will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
