James Krzal, of Derby, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 18, 2018, at Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg.
Born in Dunkirk, July 8, 1947 to the late William and Rose (Szpak) Krzal.
Graduated from Dunkirk High School and Alfred Agricultural and Technological College.
Jim served with the US Navy from 1967-73 and was a Machinist Mate 1st Class on a Navel Nuclear Powered Submarine, the USS Spadefish 668, for some of those years. A Brakeman/Conductor for Penn Central Railroad/Conrail for some years and Jim retired from the New York State Thruway Authority as a Toll Collector, after 27 years.
Survived by his wife Christine (Halas) Krzal, whom he married July 20, 1974, their son Christopher Krzal, sister Susie (Gary) Hazelton, Pat and Linda Halas, Benjamin Halas, Rosemary Halas, Scott & Janie Latona and family and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
