Gertrude E. Walas, 94, of Dunkirk, died Saturday, April 30, 2016
She was born in Dunkirk November 18, 1921, daughter of the late Alfred and Jadwiga (Krasnodemski) Marczak.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, and once employed at the former Van Raalte Silk Company, where she met her then future husband, Henry Walas.
Gertrude dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was kind to everyone and was fond of all animals especially kittens, cats and dogs. Gertrude enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and always looked forward to spending time with family.
Devoted wife of 73 years to Henry A. Walas, and mother of Lorraine (David) Rusch of Ocala, Fl., Mary Ann (James) Sandoro of Buffalo, Natalie (Daniel) Mulkin of Summerville, FL., James (Lynn) Walas of New Hartford, NY, Sandra (Kevin) Budniewski of Fredonia, grandmother of Barbara (Kevin) Kane, Susan Rusch, Tamara (Thomas) Baker, Julie (Binh) Huynh, Brian (Cher) Walas, Meredith Budniewski, Lauren Budniewski, also surviving are several great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death in addition to her parents are step-sisters Eugenia Korzenski, Regina Kurgan, and step brothers Joseph and Michael Rucinski.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined and Memorial can be made to the Lake Shore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
