Evangelista Ruiz

Evangelista “Jelo” Ruiz, 89 , of Dunkirk, went to Heaven on Nov. 26, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Son of the late Juan and Ramona Belen Ruiz, he was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico, on Feb. 10, 1932.

On May 4 2019, he married Teresa Ortiz who was his lifelong partner of 53 years.

He lived in Dunkirk for the past 52 years and was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid bingo player who also enjoyed playing dominoes, making his own guitars and playing them, fishing and loved dancing.

Surviving are his 10 children: Jannette Ruiz-Ortiz, Jaime Ruiz, Edgardo Gonzalez, Luis Ruiz, Edgardo Ruiz, Margarita “Iris” Ruiz-Miller, Justina Navarro, Iris Navarro, Ana Delia Ruiz-Navarro, and Hilda Ruiz-Navarro; along with plenty of grandchildren, many loving great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Jelo is preceded in death by his father Juan; his mother Ramona; his brother Francisco “Jimmy” Ruiz; his sister Catalina Ruiz; his three sons: Joaquin “Kino” Ruiz, Juan Pablo Ruiz-Navarro and Hector Ruiz-Navarro.

Funeral services will be held Today, at 10 a,m, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church starting at 10 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
