Elodie M. Mackowiak, 60, of Dunkirk, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 28, 2015 peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. She was born in Dunkirk on January 13, 1955, daughter of the late Joseph and Patricia (Janowski) Vanderlee. She was a graduate of JCC with an Associate degree in Information Systems and was employed by Fair-Point Communications in Westfield. Elodie enjoyed life, her family, gardening, the "Elodie Lillies" in it, and was an avid reader, and most of all cherished time spent with her two grandchildren. Her memberships include Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish and the Dom Polski. Surviving is her companion Dan Brunecz of Dunkirk, her children Bethany (John) Fish of Severna Park, MD, Mark Mackowiak of Dumfries, VA, grandchildren Jack and Ethan Fish, brother Dennis (Diana) Vanderlee of Dunkirk, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty St. in Dunkirk, on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Relay for Life of SUNY Fredonia, 280 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY 14063; or Dunkirk Free Library, 536 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY 14048.
