Donald P. "Flip" Burns, 75, of Dunkirk died Monday morning, July 18, 2016 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.He was born April 5, 1941 in Buffalo, son of the late Thomas Murray Pyle and Betty Jean Burns.
Don was a retired employee of Carriage House in Dunkirk, and at one time was cocaptain of the Margaret Ann fishing tug in Dunkirk. An outgoing and well liked person, Don enjoyed golfing, boating, spending time with his family, and watching the Buffalo Bills.
His memberships included the Moniuszko Club, Dunkirk Exempt Fireman's Club, Columbus Club and Fourth Ward Falcons Club, and he was a frequent visitor at Bart's Cove and also could be found just about every morning at Demetri's with owner Jamie having coffee.
Surviving are sons Dwayne Patrick Burns and Robert Peter Burns, both of Ontario; a sister, Elizabeth (Jim Land) Pyle of Ontario; his extended family, Sibila Soto of Dunkirk and her children, whom he considered his grandchildren, DiMary Liz, Karla Mary, Emmanuel Maisonet; nieces and nephews and many friends, including John (Paula) Lakas.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Margaret Simons.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call today from 4-8 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk. A Christian Burial Service will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m.. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
