Donald F. Reilly

Donald F. Reilly, 94, of Dunkirk died on Friday, March 12, 2020.

He was born in Dunkirk on July 16, 1925, the son of the late George and Emmabelle (Link) Reilly.

Don was a graduate of Dunkirk High School.A U.S. Marine veteran of WW II, Don served from 1943 to 1946 in active action in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa as a M1 rifle Marksman. His unit received a Presidential Citation for the number of Enemy planes shot down with M1 Rifles.

Don worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. for 36 years as a Medart Stainless Steel Bar straightening operator.

He was an avid sportsman: playing in Friday night golf leagues and got a hole-in-one after 25 years, played decades in bowling leagues at Lucky Lanes with a 300 game and multiple 700 series. He was elected to the Western NY softball Fastpitch Hall of Fame, having beat the the team “King and his Court”, and frequently enjoyed fishing or Hunting in Chautauqua County.His memberships include Kosciuszko Club, VFW, American Legion Post 62 and the Moose Club.

Surviving are his sons, Patrick (Cathleen) Reilly of Rochester and Donald (Janine) Reilly of Orlando, FL; grandsons, Kevin (Kayla) Reilly, Michael Reilly, Steven Reilly (Jenna), William Reilly and Patrick Reilly; great-grandsons, Beckham and Cooper; along with many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his wife Annabelle (Cych) Reilly, sisters Rosemary Parisi and Ann Szczerbacki, brothers John “Jack” Reilly, James Reilly and Michael O’Reilly.

Relatives and friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc., 56 E. Doughty St., Dunkirk. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
