David C. Kolassa “Davey Bird”, 78 of Fredonia N.Y passed away Sunday May 19, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Brooks memorial hospital following a lengthy illness.
Dave was born in Dunkirk on August 27, 1940, He was one of five children to the late Charles and Jane (Bentley)Kolassa.
After attending Mindszenty high school, Dave enlisted in the Navy, sailing on the U.S.S Lake Champlain and Duxbury Bay. He then worked at Plymouth Tube in Dunkirk and retired after working at Foster Nursey and Concord Nursery.Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, bird watching and gardening. He also enjoyed sports, He loved the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He also enjoyed watching Nascar racing and spending time with family and friends, and was known for his kindness and infectious sense of humor.
Dave was a member of various local clubs which include, The Northern Chautauqua Conservation club, Fredonia Beaver Club and the American Legion Post #59
Dave is survived by two sons, Todd (Brenda) Kolassa of Arkwright and Timothy (Michelle) Kolassa of Fredonia. Grandchildren Brett, Sebastian. Cassidy and Dalton. One brother, William (Mary) Kolassa and one sister Barb (Art) Nolan both of Fredonia, sister in law Gail Kolasa, along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in addition to his parents by his loving wife Sally (Verhague) Kolassa of 43 years, sister Susan (Richard) Riewaldt of Dunkirk and brother Thomas Kolassa.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life to be held Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 4-?, at the family residence at 3402 Stone Quarry Road, Fredonia.
Family suggests donations be made to the Jamestown Audobon Society in lieu of flowers.
