Albertine G. Jakubowicz

Albertine (Omez) Jakubowicz, 94, of Dunkirk, NY, died unexpectedly on April 15, 2020.

She was born on November 28, 1925 in Tourcoing, Nord France to the late Edouard and Raymonde (Reynard) Omez.

She married PFC Alfred Jakubowicz, a US Army Soldier serving in France during WWII on March 1,1946 in Tourcoing, France.In April of 1946 she boarded the ship USAT Bridgeport with several other WWII war brides. There, she spent 30 days in port at LeHavre, France before setting sail to the US. The voyage was approximately 3 weeks. She arrived in NYC where she was met by her husband Alfred and they took up residency in his hometown, Dunkirk, NY where they raised their four sons.

Albertine was a homemaker and worked for a brief period as a clerk and cashier at Ames Department Store in Dunkirk. After her husbands retirement they enjoyed their time as “snow birds” in their winter home in Largo, Florida as well as traveling internationally and domestically.

She was a member of the Rosary Society for Blessed Mary Angela Church.She cherished spending time with her sons, daughter-in-laws and grand children. All who knew her loved her French accent and warm welcoming demeanor. She was outgoing, friendly and enjoyed many special friendships.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Shelley) Jakubowicz, Angola, NY, John (Carol) Jakubowicz, Dunkirk, NY, the late Thomas (Jean) Jakubowicz, Fredonia, NY, Richard (Shelley) Jakubowicz, Fredonia, NY Her Grandchildren Jessica (Jeff) Guenther, Michele (Darrin) Gabel, J.J. (Shannon) Jakubowicz, Jason Jakubowicz, Jaime (Ryan) Mourer, Justin (Jillian) Jakubowicz, Jennifer (Gary) Seitz, Danielle (Sebastian) Correa and Fourteen Great-grandchildren. Preceded in death in addition to her parents are her husband of 57 years Alfred Jakubowicz 2003, Son Thomas Jakubowicz 2007 a Sister Paulette Omez, Infant Grand-daughter Virginia Jakubowicz 1990, Grandson Michael Jakubowicz 2008.

Due to Covid 19 virus there will be no visitation.A memorial celebration of life to be held at a later date.
